Holiday Tournament action
There was plenty of action on the hardwood for Courierarea teams on Friday with a total of nine basketball games being played in holiday events from Fountain City to Orlando, Fla.
Along with the Southwestern girls two games in their own Rumble on the River Tournament and the Carroll County boys in the Bracken County Tournament, Southwestern's boys, Trimble County's boys and girls and Carroll County's girls team were all in action.
Southwestern's boys dropped a pair of games in the Northeastern Tournament in Fountain City. The Rebels lost 77-32 to Union County and 61-49 to Monroe Central to fall to 0-8 on the season. Southwestern faces New Washington in the seventh-place game today.
Trimble County's girls dropped a hard-fought 65-58 loss to North Marion (W.V.) in the KSA Events Holiday Classic in Orlando, Fla. The Lady Raiders, now 4-4, will play two games in the event today.
The Trimble County boys split a pair of games in the Henry County Invitational in New Castle, Ky. The Raiders, now 3-7 on the season, lost to DeSales 82-40 but defeated Western Hills 71-58.
Carroll County's girls dropped a 62-22 decision to host South Warren in the South Warren Holiday Classic in Bowling Green, Ky. The Panthers are now 2-7 on the season.
Carroll County dropped a close 57-52 decision to Pike County Central on the second day of the Bracken County Tournament in Brooksville, Ky. on Friday.
The game was close throughout and it was only late that Pike County Central pulled out the win. The Hawks outscored Carroll County 15-12 in the third quarter and 17-13 in the fourth.
Jacob Wise, Isaiah Hogan and Dakota Corbin scored 13 points each to lead Carroll County. Corbin added seven rebounds and Wise had four assists.
Tyler Burnett led Pike County Central with 14 points. Ethan Blackburn scored 12.
Carroll County was 15-for-33 (40 percent) from the floor, including 4-of-14 (29 percent) on 3-pointers. The Hawks hit 20-of-30 (56 percent) overall despite just 2-of-9 (22 percent) from the arc.
