Trimble County's Evan Long scored 13 of his game-high 16 points in the second half - including a clutch 10-of-12 at the free throw line - as the Raiders beat Deming 61-50 in boys basketball Friday night in Mt. Olivet, Ky.
Long, a sophomore guard who also hit a pair of 3-pointers, was joined in double figures by senior guard Robbie Brooks with 13 points and senior forward Ethan Merrill with a dozen.
"(We) survived a scrappy Deming team," Trimble assistant coach Mike Stewart said. "Clutch play by Evan Long down the stretch. Another solid game by Ethan Merrill. His play continues to be strong every game. Rob Brooks played another game under the weather but Rob played another outstanding game. He continues to lead this team."
The Raiders led 14-13 after a quarter and 26-25 at halftime before forging some separation in the third quarter by outscoring the Black Devils 16-4 in the period to take a 42-29 lead into the final eight minutes. Deming outscored Trimble 21-19 in the fourth but the damaged had already been done.
Deming, now 0-9, was led by junior forward Justin Pilosky with 15 points - all but two of that in the first half - while junior forward Darrin Edwards added 12.
Deming hit eight 3-pointers on the night and outscored Trimble 44-35 from the field but the Raiders outscored the Black Devils 26-6 at the foul line where Trimble was 26-of-37 to Demings' 6-of-10.
Deming was whistled for 25 fouls and one technical on head coach John D. Brown to the Raiders 17 personal fouls.
The Raiders, now 4-4, visit St. Patrick (3-6) tonight.
