EMINENCE, Ky. - The Trimble County Lady Raiders easily advanced to the second round of the Kentucky All "A" Eighth Region Tournament with a convincing 74-16 win over the host Eminence Lady Warriors on Wednesday.

"This was the way we wanted to start the 'All A,'" said Trimble County coach Kerrie Stewart. "We knew Eminence wasn't as strong as other opponents, but you can't take it for granted.

"But that many points with our starters playing only half of the game - that's a pretty good showing on our part and it says a lot for our younger players."

The Raiders (7-7) grabbed a big first quarter lead and limited the Warriors only to a Gailynn Carroll 3-pointer. Trimble, on the strength of an 11-point start by Paige Black held a 23-3 advantage at the first break.

"We wanted to pressure their guards and keep the ball out of the hands of Tiffany Thomas," Stewart said. "I thought we did a great job holding her to just five points all night."

Trimble's Erin Gonterman hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second period and Ashley Brierly nailed three buckets on her way to a nine-point night. Black added four more as the Raiders coasted to a 45-11 halftime advantage.

Trimble County's starters returned during the third period to outscore the Warriors 17-2. Jessica Dunlap scored all five of her points that quarter and Black and Chloe Griffith scored four each. The Raiders took a 62-13 lead into the final period.

Playing all reserves in the fourth quarter, Trimble outscored its opponent 12-3. Katie Gonterman knocked down all three shots she took for six points on the night and Shelbe Black scored three of her five points. Brierly connected from 3-point range for the Raiders' sixth trey of the night.

"I thought our man defense worked really well," Stewart said. "Then, later we went to a 2-3 zone.

"I was pleased with all 11 of the girls at the end as they tried to get the ball to Tailor Brewer for a basket," the coach continued. "She's still sore with an injury to her hand or I think she would have scored."

Trimble County will now face Owen County (12-4) Friday in the semifinals. Owen County defeated Walton-Verona (10-6) 46-45 in Wednesday's second game.

In Tuesday's All "A" regional first round action, Carroll County dropped a 71-28 decision to Gallatin County.

Lauren Moore led the Lady Panthers with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Makena Kindoll scored seven points and Miranda Groseclose had six for Carroll County (3-11).

Gallatin County (13-2) will now play Williamstown (6-9) in Friday's first semifinal in Eminence.
