Rebs fall at Salem
Southwestern's McKinley goes out with knee injury
Wednesday, November 14, 2012 10:00 AM
Southwestern lost its leading scorer to injury and fell to 0-3 on the season with a 57-54 loss at Salem Tuesday in girls basketball.
The Rebels were leading by five points in the third quarter when senior Sydnie McKinley went down with an apparent knee injury. She was able to put weight on the knee but she did not return to the game.
Southwestern tried to regrouped without McKinley but Salem hit nine free throws over the final eight minutes to pull out the win.
"The girls looked a little nervous after (McKinley) went down but they played hard," Southwestern coach Kenny Garrett said. "The important thing for us is that Sydnie is OK. Basketball is really secondary. And if she can't come back then somebody will have to step up in her place."
Senior Morgan Mahoney scored 16 points to lead Southwestern while Austin Courtney had 11.
Alex Davidson scored a game-high 25 points to lead Salem.
Southwestern hosts Jennings County on Friday.
