Southwestern's girls basketball team put together one of its best performances of the season in a 64-26 win at Christian Academy on Tuesday in New Albany.

The Rebels, who have been playing well of late only to not see those performances translate to wins, got the victory on Tuesday with a quick start. Southwestern led 17-4 after the first quarter and 41-10 at halftime.

"We played really well. We hit five 3-pointers in the first quarter and I only remember us missing one," Southwestern coach Kenny Garrett said. "We played well on defense and we had the big lead in the third quarter and got a little sloppy, but overall it was a great win for us."

Sophomore Debbie Hardy came off the bench to lead four Lady Rebels in double figures with 16 points. Savannah Hubbard had 14 points, Cass Lawson 12 and Morgan Mahoney scored 10.

Allison Burch led Christian Academy with nine points.

The victory ended a five-game skid for Southwestern but the Rebels have played much better than their record indicates. They took 11-win Silver Creek down to the wire before losing by three and trailed then-Class 2A No. 9 Austin by only five in the waning moments before losing by 13.

Garrett said Tuesday's win could be the jump-start his team needs.

"We've been playing well; we just need to learn to close out these games," Garrett said. "Hopefully we can string some wins together as we get into the conference season and into the sectional."

Southwestern hosts Henryville on Thursday.
