Rebs run second at tri-meet

Southwestern track and field scored a pair of second place finishes on Thursday in a three-way meet with Crothersville at New Washington.
In the girls meet, the Rebels scored 45 points as New Washington pulled away for the win with 66 points. Crothersville was third with 32.
Bethani Kleopfer and Savannah Rueda had two wins each as the Rebels scored five firsts overall.
Kleopfer broke her school record in the shot put with a throw of 39-feet-even. She also won the discus with a throw of 82 feet.
Rueda won the 1600 meters in 6:02 and the 800 meters in 2:45. She was second in the long jump at 13 feet, 3.75 inches.
Nadia Moore won the 400-meter dash in 1:05 and was second in the high jump at 4-10 and the 200-meter dash in 28.14.
Other top finishers for the Rebels were: Rebekah Anderson, second, 3200 run, 14:51; Jordyn McNally, third, 100 dash, 13.83 and third, long jump, 12-6.5; and Jayla Watson, third, 1600 run, 6:55.
Southwestern fell four points short in the boys meet as the Rebels scored 64 to New Washington's 68. Crothersville had three points.
The Rebels posted seven wins including all three relays.
Tristan Embs, Markel Goikolea, Daniel Webster and Michael Hedges won the 400-meter relay in 50.53 seconds; Gokolea, Ryan Furnish, Lawson and Austin Spray won the 1600-meter relay in 3:56; and Furnish, Lawson, Spray and Hedges took the 3200-meter relay in 10:59.25.
Lawson and Goikolea also picked up two individual wins each. Lawson won the 1600 run in 4:56 and the 800 run in 2:12. Goikolea took the 100-meter dash in 11.59 seconds and the 200 dash in 24.81.
Second and third place finishers for Southwestern included: Spray, second, 800 run, 2:17; Austin Mikesell, second, discus, 107-2 and second, shot put, 33-9; Jacob Shaffer, second, 3200 run, 12:39; Furnish, second, 400 dash, 59.10; Embs, third, 200 dash, 25.34; Cody Holman, third, 1600 run, 5:39; and Camden Chatham, third, 3200 run, 13:00 and third, long jump, 15-6.75.
Southwestern hosts Shawe, Rock Creek and Henryville on Tuesday.
Shawe scores four firsts
Shawe boys and girls track and field teams scored four individual wins Thursday in Osgood despite taking a pair of fourths in a meet with Trinity Lutheran, Milan and host Jac-Cen-Del.
In the boys meet, Chris Grote led Shawe with two wins including the 1600-meter run in 5:07 and the 800-meter run in 2:23. Skip Maas won the 300-meter hurdles in a personal best time of 47.66 seconds.
Grote, Maas, Mike Abbott and Garel Blanchard were also second in the 1600-meter relay.
In the girls meet, Sarelia Garcia won the 400-meter dash in 58.7 seconds and was third in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the 100-meter dash.
Bailey Wolf was fourth in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and fifth in the high jump.
Shawe competes at Southwestern with Rock Creek and Henryville on Tuesday.
