Shawe dropped a 5-0 decision to Jennings County in girls tennis Thursday in North Vernon.

While the Hilltoppers did not come away with a win in any match, coach Stephen Sims was quick to point out that their play is continuing to improve.

"I definitely saw some improvement all-around from every player," he said.

Results were: Singles - No. 1 Tori Crick (JC) d. Liz Grote (SM) 6-0, 6-1. No. 2 Lucy Hearne (JC) d. Taylor Grote (SM) 6-0, 6-0. No. 3 Emily Vawter (JC) d. Bailey Davis (SM) 6-0, 7-6 (7-4). Doubles - No. 1 Alexus Smith, Brittany Lykins (JC) d. Brittney Snodgrass, McKay Burdette (SM) 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3); No. 2 Elanie Lykins, Meegan Voss (JC) d. Sophie Edens, Paulette Koronkevich (SM) 6-1, 6-1.

"Liz and Taylor's scores are deceiving. They both hit the ball very well but just couldn't pull out the games in the end," Sims said. "I am also very proud of Bailey tonight. She came back after getting beat 6-0 in the first set to make it very interesting in the second. She battled a foot injury and almost pulled out the win."

The Hilltoppers did pick up a victory in exhibition play. Kalyn Robison defeated Jennings County's Rebekah Wiley 8-3.

Shawe (0-2) visits Austin today.
