Shawe's girls tennis team won 23 games but not enough of those came in any one match as the Hilltoppers lost 5-0 at Austin on Friday.

Shawe's No. 1 singles player, Liz Grote, battled Austin No. 1 Adrian Ziemba to a 7-5 loss in the first set before falling 6-0-1 in the second. The Hilltoppers No. 1 doubles team of Brittney Snodgrass and McKay Burdette dropped back-to-back 6-3 sets to lose to Austin's Kamry Howard and Kourtney Mace.

"We are still very much in a learning stage," Shawe coach Steve Sims said. "It is going to take us some time to get where we need to be, but I do think it is possible.  These girls know that they have to put the work in, it's just actually doing it that will make them successful."

In other matches: Singles - No. 2 Jessie Davidson(A) d. Taylor Grote (SM) 6-3, 6-2 and No. 3 Bekka Rachel(A) d. Bailey Davis(SM) 6-2, 6-2. Doubles - No. 2 Cheyenne Riley, Megan Smith(A) d. Sophie Edens, Hannah Storm(SM) 6-0, 6-2.
