Shawe volleyball came within one game of their second win of the season on Thursday but fell to Ohio River Valley Conference opponent South Ripley, 3-2 in Versailles.
The Hilltoppers played tough for the entire series and kicked off the match with a 25-22 win in set one. South Ripley then took control, winning set two 25-20 and set three 27-25. Shawe bounced back in the fourth set with a 25-19 victory, forcing the deciding fifth set. However Shawe couldn't hang on long enough as the Raiders captured the 15-9 victory and 3-2 series win.
Claire Higgins was 23-of-27 attacking with 10 kills and had six digs on 39-of-43 passing. Megan Goebel was 14-of-16 blocking with seven kills while Stephanie Snodgrass collected five aces on 13-of-14 serving. Jenna Armstrong and Shelby Greene combined for 17 kills.
