BUCKNER, Ky. - South Oldham looked right at home in rival Oldham County's gym Tuesday night while rolling over Trimble County 78-49 in the opening round of the boys 29th District Tournament.

"They're a good team," Trimble County coach John Leep III said. "They're number one in the district for a reason. They handle, shoot and pass better than not just us, but other teams as well.
"No doubt, you'll be seeing them in the semifinals and finals (at the regionals) in Henry County," Leep added.
Trimble County fell behind early and trailed 13-2 before Ethan Merrill hit a putback with three minutes left in the opening period. At that point of the game, the Dragons were totally dominant as their leading scorer Matthew Haysley calmly drained a 3-pointer at the other end. South went on to hold a 27-11 advantage after one quarter.
It only got worse for the Raiders in the second quarter as South started firing on all cylinders. The Dragons hit 8-of-11 free throws, three 3-pointers and showed balance while outscoring Trimble 29-10 for a 56-21 halftime lead.
"We didn't show much effort in the first half," Leep said. "I thought we settled down and played better in the second half."
Freshman Michael Dunaway and senior Rob Brooks scored four points each and Andrew Young had a pair of 3-pointers for six points as Trimble County outscored South 14-12 in the third period.
The Raiders again outscored the Dragons, this time 14-10, in the fourth period as senior Austin Hankinson knocked down a pair of 3-pointers for six of his career-high eight points. Dunaway and Young also drilled fourth quarter treys.
South Oldham's Haysley led all scorers with 14 points. Teammates in double-digits were Drew Greenwood (13), Shae Goodlett (11) and Mitch Catinna (10).
Dunaway's 13 points led the Raiders in scoring while Brooks added 12.
"I'm proud of (seniors) Merrill, Brooks and Hankinson," Leep said. "They represented us very well.
"Austin (Hankinson) had a really good night," the coach continued. "He's not afraid to make mistakes. This was his first district tournament and he knocks down two 25-footers. I'm happy for him. He waited his time and took advantage of the opportunities."
Leep said his talk with the team after the game focused on the positives and the future.
"I told them a 15-11 season is nothing to hang your head about and not to let this game ruin it for our whole season," Leep said. "We reaped the benefits of this season - our first winning season since 2000-2001 - and I'm proud of them."
While Trimble's season ends, South Oldham advances into Friday's championship game against the winner of tonight's North Oldham-Oldham County contest.
