Trimble bounces back in win over N. Oldham
Saturday, February 02, 2013 4:00 AM
Trimble County bounced back from its disappointing loss Monday at South Oldham with a 62-41 win at North Oldham Friday in girls basketball.
The Raiders had designs on sweeping the two Oldham County schools this week but suffered through a rough first-quarter in a 56-39 loss to South on Monday.
Trimble had no such issues on Friday. The Raiders led 16-11 after the first quarter and 32-18 at halftime en route to the 21-point win.
Raider coach Kerrie Stewart didn't believe her team was as sharp as it could have been but considering that Trimble won going away, she was more than pleased.
"We didn't play extremely well but we won by 20 points so it's nice to know that we can not play our best and still win," Stewart said.
Trimble had three players in double figures with junior Paige Black leading the way with 20 points. Chloe Griffith scored 13 points and Jessica Ball had 11.
"Jessica Ball had a very good game," Stewart said. "She was 4-for-7 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the foul line and that was good to see."
Taylor Moore led North Oldham (6-16, 0-3 District 29) with nine points.
The victory moves Trimble County to 11-9 on the season and 1-2 in district play and secures the No. 3 seed in the district tourney for the Raiders. Trimble will play No. 2 seed Oldham County (10-10), which beat the Raiders 65-57 in December, in the opening round. South Oldham (10-13) will face North in the other semifinal.
"It didn't make a big difference whether we were the three or the four because we feel we can play with either Oldham or South," Stewart said. "But it was a big deal because we didn't want to be the four seed anymore. We've had enough of being the four seed. Now we want to get in there, win a game and get into that regional."
Trimble still has four regular-season games left before the district tournament starts. The Raiders' next game is at Gallatin County on Tuesday. That game was originally scheduled to be played on Monday but has been moved to Tuesday as part of a boys-girls doubleheader.
