Trimble 'takes charge' in 64-55 win over host Burgin at H.L. Classic

Trimble County's girls basketball pulled away with a strong fourth quarter to beat host Burgin 64-55 in the Herrington Lake Classic Thursday in Burgin, Ky.
The Lady Raiders took just a two-point lead into the final frame but exploded for 24 points to seize control and win the opener by nine points.
"It was a great win," Trimble coach Kerrie Stewart said. "Anytime you can take out the host school in a tournament it's a pretty good feeling."
Trimble County entered the tournament on a three-game losing streak but ended that run with a strong second half.
Part of what spurred the Raiders on was a new take-charge attitude that Stewart has been trying to get her team to play with all season.
"I told them that Burgin has no respect for you. They want to open the tournament with a win that's why they picked you," Stewart said. "I think our kids kind of got that, 'we're not going to take it anymore' and they played well. It was nice to see."
Paige Black led three Raiders in double figures with 19 points while Chloe Griffith scored 13 and Kaylee Clifford had 11. Trimble battled foul trouble all night but came through with the win.
"We went with a smaller lineup in the fourth quarter and I think that's what really got us going," Stewart said.
Summer Burke led Burgin with 16 points. Taylor Sanders and Liz Marcinek scored 10 points each.
Trimble advances to the semifinals of the tournament where it will take on Lexington Christian today.
