Madison faced off against Salem in its annual football scrimmage on Friday. The Cubs' Mitchell Sandlin (20, top) changes direction to avoid the tackle from Salem's Kody Kramer on a run. Madison's varsity scored a 24-6 win in the controlled scrimmage while the junior varsity won 18-0. Sandlin had touchdown runs of 11 yards and eight yards while Trenton Roark caught a 19-yard pass from Kody Boles and Carson Compton had a 5-yard run. In the JV game, Reece Dryden had touchdown runs of 28 and 40 yards and Logen Cassidy caught a 33-yard pass from Alex Wilson. Madison opens the season for real next Friday when it travels to Charlestown. The Cubs' home opener will be Sept. 6 against Floyd Central. (Staff photos by David Campbell)
