Winter weather once again sidelines local teams

For the third time in five days winter weather caused postponement of nearly every sporting event in the Courierarea on Saturday.
The only events that went on as scheduled were Hanover College's men's and women's basketball games at Defiance (Ohio). However, the Carroll-Trimble boys All "A" regional semifinal matchup for Saturday was rescheduled and played on Sunday.
Some of the other events have already been rescheduled. Southwestern's girls basketball game at South Ripley - twice postponed already - will now be played Tuesday with a 6 p.m. junior varsity start.
Shawe Memorial's girls basketball with South Decatur at home has been moved to Saturday, Feb. 8 with a noon jayvee start. Shawe's home boys basketball game with Trinity Lutheran will be played on Wednesday, Feb. 12 with a 6 p.m. start.
Switzerland County's boys basketball game at Rising Sun, which was postponed on Friday, will be played Wednesday, Feb. 12 with a 6 p.m. start.
Madison's home girls basketball game with Columbus East, Madison's home boys game with Floyd Central, Southwestern's boys game at Austin and Carroll County's girls home game with Switzerland County were all postponed but no make-up dates have been announced as of yet.
Madison has officially canceled its girls games with Brownstown Central and Corydon Central and still has games with Scottsburg and Columbus East to make up. With few dates left, it appears doubtful that the school will reschedule the Scottsburg game meaning the team will play only 17 games in the regular season. The norm is 20 games.
In addition, Carroll County's home boys game with South Oldham today will either have to be moved or canceled due to the fact that the Panthers will face Owen County in the All "A" Classic Eighth Region championship at the same time.
