Hanover jumped out to a quick start but couldn't sustain that momentum in a 95-66 loss at Transylvania in women's basketball action Wednesday in Lexington, Ky.
The Panthers' Alicia Hopkins started the game with two made free throws and Shauna Watson connected with Courtney Prater for a fast-break lay-up to put Hanover up 4-0 less than a minute into the game.
Natalie Morse hit a 3-pointer at the 18:08 mark and Hopkins followed with another free throw to push the Panthers to an 8-0 lead.
But the advantage didn't last very long. Nicole Coffman quickly scored six points over a three-minute span as the Pioneers roared back to tie the game at 8-8.
The teams traded baskets for several possessions, until a Hopkins jumper in the lane brought Hanover within one point (15-14) with 11:16 remaining in the first half.
But that was as close as the Panthers would get.
Transylvania (10-5, 5-1 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) hit 5-of-9 (55.6 percent) from 3-point range and 15-of-32 (46.9 percent) from the field to spark a 33-14 run. The Pioneers led 48-28 at halftime and extended that margin the rest of the game.
Hanover shot 40.6 percent (13-32) from the field in the second half, but only 21-of-60 (35 percent) for the game and was out-rebounded 43-30.
The Panthers fared better at the foul stripe, hitting 18-of-22 for 81.8 percent.
Hopkins matched a season-high with 18 points in the losing effort. Prater joined Hopkins as the only other Panther to reach double digits, netting 14 points to go with eight boards.
Coffman led all scorers with 30 points, Katelyn Smith had 26, Madisen Webb 13 and Alex McKenzie had 10 points for Transy.
Hanover, now 10-4 overall and 4-3 in the HCAC, hosts Earlham on Saturday.
