For the second consecutive night, Trimble County sophomore reserve guard Dusty Wyssbrod came up clutch for the Raiders they edged Hancock County 74-72 in double overtime at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in Vine Grove, Ky.
Wyssbrod, who scored a career-high 30 points off the bench in the Raiders' 75-72 win over host Silver Grove on Thursday, scored 11 points Friday night. None were bigger than the two free throws he drained with time expired to break up a 72-72 tie and give the Raiders their fifth consecutive win.
While Wyssbrod provided the clinchers, it was a huge second half by senior forward Ethan Merrill that laid the groundwork for the Trimble win.
Merrill scored 15 of his team-high 20 points in the second half as the Raiders battled back from a 27-22 halftime deficit.
Trimble also was deadly accurate at the foul line, going 7-for-8 in the fourth quarter and 4-for-6 in the overtimes.
On top of that, Trimble got a pair of clutch 3-pointers by Evan Long and Andrew Young in the overtimes and three other Raiders scored in double figures as Long added 17, Michael Dunaway had 14 and Wyssbrod tallied 11.
Hancock County was led by Kolten Keown's game-high 28 points and Jake Oge scored 20 before fouling out.
Trimble, now 7-4, has two more wins than all of last season and the team's most wins since a 10-16 campaign in 2008-09. In addition, the five-game win streak is the Raiders' best since the 2000-01 season when Trimble was 17-11 including a five-game streak and a seven-game streak.
The Raiders play winless Dayton at 2 p.m. today.
