Wyssbrod scores 30 as Raiders win 4th straight
Friday, December 28, 2012 10:00 AM
Trimble County sophomore guard Dusty Wyssbrod came off the bench to score a career-high 30 points and the Raiders beat host Silver Grove 75-72 in Thursday's opening round of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic on Thursday.
The win upped Trimble County's record to 6-4 on the season and extended the Raiders' current win streak to four games - the team's first four-game spree since the 2000-2001 season.
"Clutch free throws down the stretch sealed the win over a very scrappy team," Trimble assistant coach Mike Stewart noted of the game.
The Raiders outscored the Big Trains 21-11 in the third quarter to take a 57-44 lead into the final quarter and led by as many as 15 points early in the final period before holding off Silver Grove down the stretch.
In addition to Wyssbrod's 30-point night, the Raiders had three other players in double figures as senior forward Ethan Merrill added a dozen and freshman forward Michael Dunaway and sophomore guard Evan Long scored 10 points each.
Sophomore swingman Billy Miller led the Big Trains with 22 points and Anthony Turcious, Josh Pollitt and Randy Kuntz scored a dozen points each.
Trimble, which now has one win more than the Raiders posted all of last season and the most wins since a 10-16 campaign in 2008-09, will face Hancock County (6-5) at 3 p.m. today. The Hornets were 48-37 winners over Williamstown on Thursday.
