By Courier Staff Report
The Georgia Black Magic ended the Southern Indiana Shooters’ 2002 AAU season Wednesday, scoring a 62-51 win in the 15-and-under girls basketball nationals in Overland Park, Kansas.
The shooters, which feature Madison Cubs Brittany Myers and Emily Strandmark on the roster, led by three at halftime but failed to hold the lead in an 11-point loss.
The mainstay of the Shooters’ offense, 3-point shooting, deserted the team. Averaging six treys a game, Southern Indiana failed to connect on a shot in the game.
Madison junior Myers, the Shooters’ leading scorer throughout the tournament, was held to just eight points as Georgia blanketed the 5-foot-8 shooting guard. Over the six games, Myers averaged 12.0 points-per-game.
New Albany sophomore Stephanie Lynch led the shooters with 13 points while Jeffersonville sophomore Samantha Johnson shook off an Achilles’ injury to score nine.
Southern Indiana finishes in a four-way tie for 17th in the nation, with a record of 39-12 overall.
