Madison resident and former Indiana State Board of Accounts field examiner Gary Armbrecht has announced he will run on the Democratic Party ticket for the Jefferson County Council
Armbrecht will seek the District 3 seat, currently held by Republican Larry Wynn.
Armbrecht, 62, worked as a field examiner for the Indiana State Board of Accounts for more than 39 years.
He retired in February 2013. The Board of Accounts is the state's audit agency for governmental entities that receive tax dollars such as counties, cities and towns, schools and townships.
"I understand county government budgets and financing," Armbrecht said in a news release. "Throughout nearly four decades of experience as a field examiner, I have audited many counties helping county officials identify problem areas and giving them guidance on correcting their problems."
"There are challenging times ahead for Indiana counties. I think I bring the right skill set to the job to assist other county officials in meeting those challenges and working in the best interests of the taxpayers."
Armbrecht attended South Ripley High School and graduated from Marian University in Indianapolis. While at Marian, Armbrecht was a member of the baseball team.
For more than 20 years, Armbrecht coached basketball teams at Shawe Memorial High School and youth baseball, softball and basketball teams for the Madison Parks Department.
