Former Madison Cub Logan Jones has been reinstated to the Valparaiso University men's basketball team by head coach Homer Drew.
Jones, who was suspended for an alleged violation of team rules on Dec. 15, is scheduled to return to practice with the team today, according to his father, Lance Jones. Logan's status for the Crusaders' game against Purdue University on Sunday in West Lafayette is not known.
A 2008 Madison graduate, Jones is currently a freshman at Valparaiso University. He had appeared in all nine games for the Crusaders up until his suspension, averaging 2.3 points and 11.4 minutes per game while ranking third on the team with 11 steals.
The suspension was related to Jones' arrest by Valparaiso police for underage drinking on Dec. 14, near the VU campus. Jones, 19, was driving a white Jeep Grand Cherokee at the time of his arrest. He tested positive for alcohol, blowing a 0.023 percent on a breath test for well below the legal driving limit in Indiana.
Two other Valparaiso University students were also in the car, but they were not charged.
During his suspension, Jones was not allowed to practice with the team or suit up for Valpo's games with No. 1 North Carolina in Chicago last Saturday or at Central Florida on Monday. However, he was allowed to continue individual workouts.
