- Several Courierarea runners have been named to the all-Ohio River Valley Conference Cross Country Teams.
The all-ORVC teams are selected by taking the top 12 finishers in the league championship race, which was held at Hanover College last week.
The boys team is: Corey McFarland, Switzerland Co., 17:20; Tray Meyer, Switzerland Co.,17:27; Anthony Nierlich, Rising Sun, 17:49; Anthony Dennis, Switzerland Co., 17:55; Zack Grossman, South Ripley, 18:08; Campbell Higbie, Shawe, 18:56; Quinn Meyer, Switzerland Co. 19:11; Ethan Back, South Ripley, 19:15; Donnie Lows, Jac-Cen-Del, 19:21; Andrew Pulliam, Rising Sun, 19:23; Kyle Daugherty, Shawe, 19:24; and Ryan Bohman, Southwestern, 19:28.
The girls team is: Allie Matthews, Switzerland Co., 22:05; Jennifer Patrick, South Ripley, 22:22; Sam White, Jac-Cen-Del, 22:42; Paige Freeman, Switzerland Co. 23:04; Anna Sutter, Southwestern, 23:17; Katie Dickey, Milan, 23:26; Ashley Hammond, Jac-Cen-Del, 23:33; Tayrn Parr, Switzerland Co. 23:43; Lauren Fennelly, Jac-Cen-Del, 23:55; Chloe Storm, Shawe, 24:25; Sarah Torline, Shawe, 24:32; and Chelsea Bowman, Rising Sun, 24:33.
In addition, Switzerland County's Tanner Ross was named the boys Mental Attitude Award Winner and South Ripley's Kelly Borter was the girls Mental Attitude Award winner.
Switzerland County's Mark Bogg was named boys Coach of the Year and Jac-Cen-Del's David Bradshaw was named girls Coach of the Year.
- Former Madison basketball standout Logan Jones has been named a captain for the upcoming season at North Idaho College.
Jones, a 2008 Madison graduate, transferred from Valparaiso University during the summer to North Idaho, a junior college. A sophomore, Jones is eligible to transfer back to a Division I school after this season.
The 6-foot-1 guard underwent arthroscopic knee surgery recently to remove some loose cartilage from the area, but is expected to be ready for the season. North Idaho is ranked 22nd in the preseason polls.
- Former Madison Cub basketball player Danny Gibson has begun his fourth year of playing professional basketball overseas.
Gibson, who played the past three seasons in Germany, is now playing in Holland. His team, ZZ Leiden, is off to a 3-0 start with wins by a score of 78-76, 63-62, and 97-81.
Gibson averaged 17 points, four assists, and two steals over the three games.
- Carroll County's girls basketball team will hold Midnight Madness on Friday to celebrate the start of basketball practice for the 2OO9-10 season.
The workout will start at 10:30 p.m. and will last until 12:30 a.m. and is open to the public.
- Madison's jayvee volleyball team lost to Lawrenceburg 25-8, 25-17 Tuesday on the road.
Haley Jackson and Samantha Sexton had three points each for the Cubs.
Madison visits South Decatur today in its final game of the season.
- Southwestern's jayvee volleyball team lost to Silver Creek 25-9, 18-25, 15-11 Monday.
Alex Helton was 12-for-13 serving with two aces, Lexi Means had six kills and Morgan Mahoney had four blocks.
On Tuesday, Southwestern lost to Providence 25-18, 25-20.
Means was 8-for-8 serving with an ace and four kills and Kelsey Bladen was 10-for-10 serving with an ace.
Southwestern, now 12-11, visits Christian Academy today in its final match of the season.
- Season tickets for Madison girls and boys basketball seasons will go on sale starting Thursday, Oct. 29 at the Madison High School Athletic Office.
The cost is $33 each for both the boys and girls tickets and includes all 10 home games. Pep Club Members can purchase tickets for $33, which is good for both boys and girls varsity games.

Silver Streaks 3, Dr. Peppers 1 - Zach and Joe Lutes scored one goal each while Buddy Lemon added a goal for the Streaks. Tucker Robinson had the lone goal for the Peppers.

- Hanover College will host the 13th Annual Little Panther basketball tournament on Sunday, Dec. 13.
The tourney is open to both boys and girls teams in grades three through six. All teams will be guaranteed two games during the day.
The cost to enter a team is $100 with all proceeds going to benefit the men's basketball program at the college.

- Madison Basketball Club, Inc. will hold tryouts for boys in fourth grade today from 6-7:30 p.m. at E.O. Muncie Elementary.
The fourth grade will be coached by Curtis Chatham, Kyle Oliver and Jeff Frazier. The fee to try out is $68 per player. All money will be refunded if the player does not make the team.
- The Madison Booster Club will meet today.
The Club will meet at 6 p.m. in the high school conference room.
- The Madison Boys Basketball Clinic will be held at the Lide White Boys & Girls Club Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon.
The camp is open to boys in grades three through six and the cost is $20.

- The Madison Cubs Baseball Program will host its annual golf scramble on Saturday at Sunrise Golf Course.
Cost of the scramble is $50 per golfer or $200 per foursome. The price includes green fees, food, night golf equipment, and registration for door prizes. Registration is at 5 p.m. with a 5:30 tee time. Nine holes of golf will be played before the cookout and door prize give aways. Then nine holes will be played at night.
- The Second Annual Southwestern Boys' Basketball Golf Scramble will be held Saturday at Spring Hills Golf Course in Hanover.
The event will begin at 12:30 p.m. and will be a shotgun start.
