Minnie Graham

Minnie L. Bersch Graham, 92, of Henderson, Ky., formerly of Madison, died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Methodist Hospital in Henderson, Ky.

She was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Madison, to Charles and Theresa Dierkes Bersch. She resided in Madison most of her life and graduated from Central High School. She worked as a telephone operator with the Madison Telephone Company, retiring after 20 years of service. She was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ. She moved to Henderson, Ky., and had been living there for the last three years.

She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Jones of Henderson, Ky.; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Graham, whom she married on April 20, 1940; her parents; and four brothers John Bersch, Herbert Bersch, Charles Bersch and George Bersch.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association or the Kidney Foundation. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.

Connie Jones

Connie Jones, 65, of Ghent, Ky., died Thursday, June 6, 2013, in Carrollton, Ky.

She was born March 30, 1948, in Carroll County, Ky., to Chester and Cornelia Lloyd Beach.

She is survived by two sons, Donnie Jones of Ghent, Ky. and Steven Jones of Louisville, Ky.; three daughters, Melissa Ann Easton of Warsaw, Ky., and Margaret Marie Jones and Linda Gayle Sandlin, both of Ghent, Ky.; two brothers, Frank Beach of Owenton, Ky. and Walter Beach of Ghent, Ky.; three sisters, Emma Jean Beach of Ghent, Ky., Kathy Jones of Fort Mitchell, Ky. and Edna McIntyre of Warsaw, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Paul Jones; one infant son Harvey Paul Jones Jr.; her parents; and three sisters, Christine Burgess, Gloria Boaz and Louise Griffith.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home in Carrollton, Ky. Burial will be in Ghent Cemetery in Ghent, Ky.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Vivian Mallery

Vivian Kay Hamilton Duncan Mallery, 77, of San Diego, Calif., died Monday, May 20, 2013.

She was born July 27, 1935, in Canaan, to Clifford and Alta Hamilton. She attended the Canaan Grade School and graduated as salutatorian from Central High School. She moved first to Norfolk, Va., before moving back to the Madison area for a short time and then to California. She had a career in the aerospace industry, beginning at the front desk and retiring as an executive in 1992. Following her retirement, she and her husband Ralph moved to Saint George, Utah. She enjoyed being a hostess, traveling, cruises, the ocean, dancing and reading. She also enjoyed bridge and had earned life master status. In her later years, she moved to San Diego, Calif. to be near her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, David Hamilton Duncan of San Diego, Calif.; three step daughters, Cathleen Duncan Findley of Palo Alto, Calif., Deborah Duncan Barrus of Salt Lake City, Utah and Lisa Mallery Hansell of Vancouver, Wash.; one sister, Diane Howery of Columbus; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Duncan and Ralph Mallery; her parents; and one infant brother, David Stanley Hamilton.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Canaan Cemetery. In case of bad weather, the service will be moved to Indian-Kentucky Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Canaan Cemetery Association or a charity of the donor's choice. Contribution cards are available at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, which is in charge of local arrangements.

Victoria McCallig

Victoria Jordan McCallig, 64, of Peotone, Ill., died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, in Peotone, Ill.

She was born Feb. 10, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Howard Kuhn and Maudie Duvall Jordan. She worked as an accounting clerk at Provisur in Mokena, Ill.

She is survived by her husband, Julian Paul Avelis; one daughter, Rachel Avelis of Peotone, Ill.; one son, Peter Avelis of Peotone, Ill.; and one sister, Nola Jordan of Bradford, N.H.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A graveside service and burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Dallasburg Masonic Cemetery in Wheatley, Ky.

Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton, Ky. is in charge of arrangements.

Sandra Penn

Sandra Reneé Penn, 46, of Campbellsburg, Ky., died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

She was born March 25, 1967, in Carrollton, Ky., to James William "Jim" and Brenda Littrell Penn. She was an administrative assistant at the Kentucky Utilities Ghent Generating Station.

She is survived by her mother of Campbellsburg, Ky.; and one brother, Jeffrey Penn of Macclenny, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her father, who died Feb. 22, 2012.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton, Ky. Burial will be in English Cemetery in Carrollton, Ky.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Robert Sampson

Robert Thomas "Bobby T." Sampson, 61, of Hanover, died Friday, June 7, 2013, at King's Daughters' Hospital.

Rachel Scott

Rachel J. Scott, 82, of Bedford, Ky., died June 7, 2013, at Signature Health Center in Bedford, Ky.

She was born April 3, 1931, in Locust, Ky., to Mose and Josie Long Jenkins. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Bedford Baptist Church and helped out in many capacities throughout the years. She enjoyed sharing her faith, listening to gospel music, reading and visiting or helping people in need.

She is survived by her husband, Sylvan R. Scott, whom she married Oct. 27, 1951; three sons, Timothy Reed Scott of Lexington, Ky., Robin Way Scott of Princeton, Ky. and Roger Bruce Scott of Frankfort, Ky.; five siblings, Cassie Graham of Louisville, Ky., Jeanie Dougherty of New Albany, Edith Ford of Dupont, Mazie Rosenbarger of Jeffersonville and John Jenkins of Lexington; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Joanie Daleure; and one brother, Roscoe Jenkins.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Bedford Baptist Church in Bedford, Ky. Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery in Bedford, Ky.

Friends may call at Ransdell Funeral Home in Bedford, Ky., Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. and at the church Monday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Patricia Smith

Patricia Ruth "Patty" Brandon Smith, 83, of Versailles, died Friday, June 7, 2013, at Our Hospice Inpatient Unit in Columbus.

She was born Oct. 29, 1929, in Newport, Ky., to Ernest and Berniece Drake Brandon. She was raised in Switzerland County and resided in Ripley County for the past 52 years. She was a 1947 graduate of Dupont High School. She married Charles Stout in 1948. She later married Delmar Smith with whom she co-owned and co-operated Smith's Feed Mill in Versailles. She was of the Christian faith. She enjoyed cooking, cleaning, having everything in meticulous order and being with family.

She is survived by her husband, Delmar L. Smith, whom she married Oct. 15, 1960; one son, Terry Stout of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter, Debra Walker of Versailles; one brother, David Brandon of Madison; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one nephew; and one niece.

She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Stout; her father; her mother, Berniece Drake Brandon Griffith; her step mother, Nannie Lou Brandon; her step father, Frederick Griffith; and one nephew.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from noon until the service.

Anna Thevenow

Anna L. Hoffmann Thevenow, 85, of Nashville, formerly of Madison, died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.

She was born Dec. 2, 1927, in Madison, to Ed and Ethel Mae Alexander Hoffmann. She resided in Madison until moving to be near her daughter. She was a 1945 graduate of North Madison High School. She was the co-owner of the Star Food Store for several years. She also worked at Grote Manufacturing for several years and then retired after 10 years of service as an attendant at the Madison State Hospital. She was an avid Indiana University basketball fan. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, working crossword puzzles and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed attending softball games and encouraging the athletes. She was a longtime member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church, now the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by one son, Phillip Dale Hoffmann of Palmetto, Fla.; four daughters, Viki Thevenow of Bloomington, Niki Kring and Michelle Mouser, both of Madison, and Rebecca May of Nashville; two sisters, Mae Sommer and Mary Craig, both of Madison; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Theresa Ann Thevenow, who died in 1963; her parents; and two sisters, Bettie Jenkins and Rosemary Geyman.

The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Chapel, 310 W. State St. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. The rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
