Courier Staff Report
Madison native Christopher Allen will be airing his award-winning comedy, "Star Trek vs. Batman," on Madison's local cable access, Channel 15.
The comedy, a crossover of two icons of the 1960s television landscape, "Star Trek and the "Batman" series has been previewed nationwide, garnering multiple awards from Seattle to Baltimore.
The film was voted "Best Film Award" by the RadCon Film Festival in February, and most recently, the "Most Humorous" award by the Shore Leave Festival held in Baltimore in July.
To date, the film has been viewed more than 800,000 times worldwide on Allen's Web site, racsofilms.com.
"I wanted to share the success with my hometown," Allen said. "Of all the films I've done since 1995, this has by far been the most well-received."
Originating as a mere joke, Allen thought of the concept with fellow Madison native, Mike Yheulon.
"Like other kids who grew up in the 80s, our only choice for entertainment were reruns of 'Star Trek' and 'Batman,'" Allen said. "Naturally, as I grew older, I noticed just how over the top William Shatner and Adam West were portraying these television heroes. So let's see who would win an over-acting contest with 'Star Trek vs. Batman.'"
All three episodes and a making of featurette will be shown at 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. today. Additional showings of the film will occur Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 to Sept. 3. The show times have not been determined.
"Star Trek vs. Batman" has previously screened at Chicago Tardis, a film festival held in Chicago every Thanksgiving; the Indianapolis International Film Festival; RadCon Film Festival in Seattle; on Fairfield's public access television station in Iowa and in Baltimore at the Shore Leave convention.
All three episodes can be viewed for free by visiting Allen's Web site at www.racsofilms.com.
