Courier Staff Report
A Madison woman was arrested at King's Daughters' Hospital on Wednesday night on charges of prescription fraud after she received treatment for an overdose of the drugs she is accused of obtaining illegally.
Christina Mason, 28, is alleged to have called Walgreens and Wal-Mart pharmacies in Madison representing herself to be calling from a doctor's office. She allegedly called in prescriptions for Ultram and Tramadol, which are pain relievers. Police said Mason then gave names of her family members to the pharmacists for the prescriptions, which Mason herself later picked up.
Mason was arrested by the Indiana State Police on 12 charges of prescription fraud, a class D felony.

There have been a rash of phony tramadol Rx call ins recently. One in Virginia ,to in Pennsylvania, and one in Maryland. People must think, that just because tramadol is a non-scheduled legend (unlike Vicodin, Dilaudid, Adderall), there are no penalties. That couldn’t be further from the case. Even calling in bogus scripts for Motrin can land you in jail. Tramadol is, however, an opioid narcotic. It is the only non controlled opioid in the US, and together with dextromethorphan and loperamide, are the only non-controlled opioids in US.
