for street sweeping
Courier Staff Report
Madison will start a street sweeping schedule next month. Residents are being asked to avoid parking vehicles on the side of the street to be swept, city utilities director Randy Eggenspiller said. The two sides of a street will be swept on different days.
The street sweeper will be operated from 4 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday.
A clockwise pattern will be followed, starting in the southwest part of downtown and the southwest part of the hilltop on Mondays, followed by the other quadrants on subsequent days.
The street sweeping schedule, like the recycling schedule, is based on full weeks of the month:
During the first and third weeks of the month, the north and east sides of streets will be cleaned.
The south and west sides of streets will be cleaned during the second and fourth weeks.
The schedule will be followed as much as possible, though the machine might break down or the operator might be out sick, Eggenspiller said, so adjustments will have to be made.
The boundary streets listed on the schedule will be swept that day, along with adjoining streets. Eggenspiller said the city tries to sweep Jefferson, West and Main streets and Vaughn Drive more frequently than other streets.
The section-by-section schedule is:
Downtown
Monday: South of Main Street and west of West Street.
Tuesday: North of Main Street and west of West Street.
Wednesday: North of Main Street and east of West Street.
Thursday: South of Main Street and east of West Street.
Hilltop
Monday: South of Hendricks Street and west of Cragmont Street.
Tuesday: North of Hendricks Street and west of Cragmont Street.
Wednesday: North of Mouser Street and east of Cragmont Street.
Thursday: South of Mouser Street and east of Cragmont Street.
