UPDATE: Just before 4 p.m. today, the Jefferson County Voter Registration Office added 404 more to the numbers already reported in the municipal elections in Madison and Hanover. That means the total number of votes, including absentee and early voting, is unofficially 3,788. The Madison Courier will provide official voting including precinct totals as soon as possible.

Polls close at 6 p.m.

UPDATE: Just before 2 p.m. today, the Jefferson County Voter Registration Office added 458 more to the numbers already reported in the municipal elections in Madison and Hanover. That means the total number of votes, including absentee and early voting, is unofficially 3,384. . The Madison Courier will provide official voting including precinct totals as soon as possible.

UPDATE: By midday Tuesday, almost 2,600 voters had cast ballots in the Madison and Hanover municipal elections either at the polls or through early and absentee voting.

An update from the Jefferson County Voter Registration Office about noon today reported 976 more voters had cast ballots in the precincts in the municipal elections in Madison and Hanover. That is in addition to the 330 voters who had cast ballots by the 8:30 a.m. update.

That means about 1,300 voters had turned out today by noon.

The polls opened at 6 a.m. with 1,291 votes already cast through early or absentee voting. That total is more than double the number of early voters the same races saw during the primary election last May.

An update from the Jefferson County Voter Registration Office at about 8:30 this morning reported 330 voters already had cast ballots in today’s municipal elections in Madison and Hanover.

The polls opened at 6 a.m. with 1,291 votes already cast through early or absentee voting.

That total is more than double the number of early voters the same races saw during the primary election last May.

The largest number of votes cast, 79, had been at Lydia Middleton School, where two precincts ­— 2-1 and the 3rd Ward vote— and the next largest, 66, at the VFW post on Michigan Road, where three precincts vote — 4-1, 4-1A and 4-2.

Precinct 2-2 at Shawe Memorial High School reported 56 voters; precincts 1-1 and 1-2 at the American Legion on Jefferson Street reported 53 voters; Precinct 4-3 at the Madison High School gym reported 40 voters, and Precincts 1 and 3 at the Hanover Parks Department reported 36 voters.

There was no report from Precincts 5-1 and 5-2 at E. O. Muncie School.
