With Mother's Day around the corner, a Carroll County community theater group is making sure area moms have a show to see this weekend.

The Port William Players will be performing "Steel Magnolias" this weekend, with a special Mother's Day luncheon during their Sunday matinee show. Deborah Garrett, the play's co-director, said this play makes a great Mother's Day gift.

"It's just such a Mother's Day play," she said.

Garrett is in the play and is co-directing with Mary Louden.

The play features a group of southern women in Louisiana and shows major events over a three-year period from the vantage point of an in-home beauty parlor where the friends regularly gather.

Over the three-year span, the group of friends deal with death, health issues, relationships, family matters and faith.

Garrett said she was in the play several years ago, and became a fan.

"I was talking with one of the girls that's in it, she liked the play. And we were just talking one day and decided to do it," Garrett said. The performances will be at the Historic English Schoolhouse on Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Mother's Day performance will also include a luncheon with Kentucky hot browns, Kentucky ambrosia salad and broccoli being served.

Tickets are $12 for Friday and Saturday performances, and $30 for the Mother's Day show.
