The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who broke into a cash register at the Carrollton Walmart Monday afternoon and left the store with the cash.

Sheriff Jamie Kinman said surveillance tapes show an unidentified man who appears to be in his mid-30s to mid-40s entering the lawn and garden section of the store around 4:30 p.m. No employees were at the register or in that area.

The man looked around the area for a few minutes, then took a pair of hedge trimmers from the shelf. He proceeded to use the hedge trimmers to break open the cash register and take an estimated $200 from the drawer.

The man left in what looked to be a late 1990s or early 2000s Chevrolet Cavalier, either white or silver in color, Kinman said.

The sheriff's office called other Walmart stores in the area to ask about other break-ins at stores and to put nearby stores on alert for potential issues.

"We contacted Louisville and up north," Kinman said, but none of the other nearby stores had any reported thefts of that kind.

Anyone with information about the theft can call the Carroll County Sheriff's Office at (502) 732-7010.
