Jefferson County United Way will holds its annual Day of Caring on Saturday by conducting local service projects for area organizations and residents.

Larry Cummins, director of community outreach for the local United Way chapter, said volunteers will paint a room at the American Red Cross and do landscaping work at LifeSprings Mental Health Services.

The United Way also will send volunteers to 10 homes for lawn work and exterior maintenance, Cummins said. One crew will install a handicap ramp, while another will travel from home to home cleaning out gutters.

Between 35 to 40 volunteers already have signed up to help, Cummins said.

Residents for Day of Caring are selected through an application process that typically begins in January.

Day of Caring is recognized by United Way chapters across the county. This will be the third annual Day of Caring for the Jefferson County agency.
