Madison police arrested four people Sunday after conducting a controlled buy of methamphetamine.

Lt. Det. Jonathon Simpson had received information that Jeffrey A. Melton, 48, had been dealing meth out of the Best Way Inn on Clifty Drive, according to Chief Dan Thurston.

Simpson, along with Senior Patrolwoman Season Jackson and Patrolman Kurtis Wallace, arranged for a controlled buy using a confidential informant. Police bought the meth for $120, Thurston said.

Upon entering the motel room, officers handcuffed Melton and three other people.

Officers searched Melton and found four baggies filled with meth, Thurston said.

The three other people in the room were:

• Maurice W. Youngblood, 47, of Deputy;

• Dustin M. Nelson, 21, of Hanover; and

• William J. Melton, 27, of Madison.

During the search of the room, officers located a suitcase containing marijuana, paraphernalia, digital scales and sandwich bags, Thurston said.

Jeffrey Melton was arrested on a charge of dealing meth. The other three men were arrested on a charge of visiting a common nuisance.
