The first day of winter didn't deter a group of nature enthusiasts from traveling the Heritage Trail on Sunday during the "Welcome Winter Walk." Walkers and bikers bundled up to keep warm during their trek as temperatures hovered in the high 30s.

The Heritage Trail Conservancy hosted the event during the afternoon and invited the community for s'mores and hot drinks at the trail welcome center near Cragmont and First streets.

The trail stretches from the Ohio River on the corner of Vaughn Drive and Vernon Street all the way up the hill to the Madison State Hospital. The trail is approximately 1.4 miles long.

The trail is funded by the Heritage Trail Conservancy, a non-for-profit, donor-supported, volunteer-based organization, dedicated to the preservation and management of the trail.
