A steering committee for the community-driven Madison/Jefferson County Vision and Action Plan will hold its first meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ivy Tech Community College with a public meeting to follow in the spring.

The goal of the committee is to establish a broad-based vision and action plan to improve quality of life for area residents

The committee is made up of 31 residents from Madison, Hanover and other parts of Jefferson County. It includes educators, business people, and city and county public officials.

The first public meetings will likely take place in early March, according to a news release.

With input from the community and a technical assessment of the county's needs, the committee will draft a vision and action plan for moving the Jefferson County community forward.

The steering committee will work closely with planning Next, a national community planning practice based in Columbus, Ohio.

The committee will meet monthly for the next 10 months.
