Paige Catt, 9, top, and Patience Carr, 8, bottom, build eco-bots Monday at Girls Inc. The eco-bots, tiny robots made with simple materials, were created as part of a program by Connie Leap of Girls Inc. and Carolyn Stutler of Purdue University's Jefferson County Extension Office.

Leap, who has also been involved in 4-H since she was a child, went to training for the 4-H Eco-Bot Challenge program.

Stutler said one of the main purposes of the exercise is to foster an interest in science, technology, engineering and math - or STEM - in the children.

The program will be repeated for Jefferson County 4-H members at their meeting at the fairgrounds on Saturday, Nov. 3. (Staff photos by Ken Ritchie)
