A home at 834 Banta Ave. could soon be demolished, City Building Inspector Mark Johnson said.

Johnson said the home, that he's been dealing with for two years, has been vacant since 2012.

Johnson told the Board of Public Works and Safety that a crew came in and stripped down the house to a shell, filling four large trash containers.

Johnson said that what's left of the home, might not be worth saving.

" I think the new plan is to demo it down to the block and rebuild a new shell for a house there. It was pretty bad all the way through."

Also at the meeting, the board approved a street closure for the First Baptist Church Praise Band, which will perform Sept. 13. Broadway, between Main and Third streets will be closed from 5 to 9 p.m.

Another street closing was approved for the Walnut Blast on Sept. 14. The annual event, put on by the Walnut Street Committee, will be held on Walnut Street, between Fifth Street and Moody Park Lane from 5 to 8 p.m.

The board also approved the closing of an alley that runs next to 415 E. Main St. between Third and Main streets. That alley will be closed from Sept. 3-6 so that masonry work can be performed on the Main Street building.
