Barricades went up this weekend after a hole in Vaughn Drive near Firemen’s Park got bigger and pavement collapsed. The road surface had been laid last year after a sewer line was installed, so the paving contractor will check if he did something wrong and if so, repair it, city utility manager Brian Jackson said Monday. It’s possible the problem is an aged stormwater drainage pipe because crews installing the sewer line found many old, rusted, deteriorated pipes, Jackson said. Crews replaced and repaired as much as they could, but the city could not afford to replace them all, he said. If the problem is not the contractor’s, the city will make the repairs, he said. Another problem area was also reported, but Jackson did not yet have details.
