The Madison Plan Commission recommended Monday that the City Council add a definition of brewpub to the zoning ordinance and also include brewpubs in the ordinance.

The commission’s recommendation will go to the City Council on May 14 for the first reading of the proposed additions.

The first reading usually is a routine introduction of a measure. The second reading is where there is a public hearing and vote. The final vote comes after the third reading, which often is held immediately after the vote on the second reading in order to shorten the process.

If the City Council gives final approval to the additions, the way will be open for brothers Jerry and Larry Wade to apply to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a conditional use permit to have a brewpub in a former feed mill they bought on the northwest corner of Second and West streets.
