The City of Madison Fire Department said in a Facebook post Monday that they now have more smoke detectors they can install for Madison residents.

So far, the department has installed 81 detectors in 27 homes this year. They installed so many, they ran out of the supply provided to them by the Red Cross and had to order some from their own fire prevention budget, said DeVries last week.

The department said they would be making calls soon to those who have called them requesting smoke detectors since they ran out to set up times to install them.

Those who wish to sign up for a free smoke detector installation can go to to fill out the new contact form or call 812-265-8350.
