A former correctional officer, Robert L. Jones, has been arrested on charges of sexual misconduct, a Level 5 felony, and official misconduct, a Level 6 felony, by correctional police officers, Madison Parole District and the Hanover Police Department. The arrest followed an internal investigation at the Madison Correctional Facility.

Jones is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on a cash-only bond of $2,000. Correctional facility officials said Jones is from Lexington, Indiana.

Warden Jan Davis said in a news release this morning that the Indiana Department of Corrections has a zero-tolerance policy for “this type of misconduct and will pursue prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.”

In September 2016, a former Madison Correctional Facility security guard received a three-year sentence, which was to be served through community corrections, after admitting he had sexual intercourse with a female offender incarcerated at the facility. Cody Konkle, 26, pleaded guilty a Level 5 felony count of sexual misconduct. The charge stems from an investigation by correctional police into an encounter at the facility between Konkle and a female offender.

In April 2018, Jacob Wise, 22, of Madison, a Madison Correctional Facility staff member, was sentenced to two years in jail, suspended to two years with community corrections, and ordered to pay fines and fees totaling $585 for felony official misconduct after a plea agreement on charges, including a Level 5 felony count of sexual misconduct, a Level 6 felony count of official misconduct and a misdemeanor count of trafficking with an inmate.

Court records indicated officials at the facility began investigating the case because of suspicious camera footage. A review of videos showed Wise and an offender appeared to spend a significant amount of time together talking, the records indicated.
