A 20-year-old Ohio man was wounded in the abdomen, another man was arrested for conspiracy to commit robbery and a third man is still at large after they showed up at an Ohio County residence Tuesday morning and engaged in an altercation with a man who lives at the home.

An initial investigation by detectives from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post indicated that Marcus Marsalis Donald, 34, and two other men showed up at the residence, engaged in an altercation with a man who lives at the home and during that altercation outside of the home, the 22-year-old resident produced a handgun and fired on the three men.

The three men fled the area on foot.

A 20-year-old Ohio man was located in the area later Tuesday morning, suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was transported to a Cincinnati area hospital where he was treated for “serious” injuries. Marcus Donald was located on foot in the area Tuesday afternoon and, after further investigation, arrested on an initial charge of conspiracy to commit robbery and lodged in the Dearborn County Detention Center in Lawrenceburg.

Indiana State Police Department are leading the investigation and still trying to locate the third man, a white male, who fled the scene. Investigators do not believe there is any danger to the public at this time.

The shooting took place at about 6 a.m. Tuesday at a residence located in the 3200 block of State Road 262 near Rising Sun. Police responded as an active shooter call after receiving reports that shots were fired outside of a residence. The ensuing manhunt for the two at-large suspects in the case prompted nearby Rising Sun Schools to close for the day as a precaution.

“Safety is our No. 1 priority,” said Branden Roeder, superintendent of Rising Sun Schools. “With that in the middle of the morning, it’s dark out, we have bus riders that are waiting by the road for the bus to pick them up, and the last thing we wanted to happen was our students to be outside with an armed person at large.”

State police said the identities of the other three males involved in the incident are being withheld at this time. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible.
