A 34-year-old Madison man has died from injuries he suffered in a one-car crash on State Road 56 near the entrance to the Indiana Kentucky Electric Power Plant on Friday morning.

According to a Madison Police Department release, Justin K. Cook, 34, Madison, was traveling westbound on State Road 56 at about 8:37 a.m. when his car left the travel portion of the roadway and struck a utility pole.

MPD Officers and King’s Daughters’ EMS rendered first aide at the scene while firefighters worked to extricate Cook from the wreckage. He was then flown from the scene to University Hospital in Louisville where he died later on Friday.

Madison Police Patrolman Joseph Gibson is leading the investigation with assistance by an Indiana State Police accident reconstructionist. Madison Police Officers Dan Stephan, Dan Slygh, Seth Melton and Chad Wehner assisted at the scene along with the Clifty Six Fire & Rescue and Fair Play Fire Company No. 1.

The investigation is ongoing.
