Young Writers Workshop: This creative writing workshop will be guided by Dominique Battles from Hanover College. The workshop starts Jan. 8 through Feb. 26 at the Jefferson County Public Library in Madison. Official meeting time is on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. This program is for children in 4th, 5th or 6th grade. Knitting 101: This introduction to knitting class is for beginners who always wanted to learn how to knit. This will meet from 5 pm. to 6:30 p.m. at the Jefferson County Public Library in Hanover. Instructor Pan Sinsel will teach the foundation skills: how to read a basic patterns, three different “cast on” methods, the purl stitch, how to “bind off” when finished and students will learn about equipment needed to knit. PFLAG: The local chapter, which is affiliated with the national organization, will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at the Clearinghouse of Jefferson County, 100 E. Second St. The group aims to advocate for LGBTQ people and educate all.

Kids Knitting 101.2: Youth with basic knitting skills in third grade or older can learn to knit a hat at 4 p.m. at the Jefferson County Public Library in Madison. Seed Swap Day: Bring your extra seeds to share with other participants from 10 a.m. to noon at the Jefferson County Public Library in Madison. Seeds should be clean, free of mold, labeled and not older than 3 years. Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions about seeds and plants. Educational material will also be available. Groundhogs: Underground Architects: Meet at 11 a.m. at the Clifty Falls State Park Nature Center for a quick 30-minute look into the lives of groundhogs. There will be a fun craft with groundhog masks that can be worn.

Fish Fry: The Kent Volunteer Fire Company will host a fish fry from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. All proceeds will go directly to the Deputy Fire Department to help rebuild.

STEM Saturday: Create and explore at 2 p.m. at the Jefferson County Public Library in Madison. The library will provide a few projects with materials and instructions. Play with the Code and Go Mouse, build with Legos, visit the maker table and create something to take home. This event is recommended for ages 6 and up, but all ages are welcome.
