The Madison Area Chamber of Commerce is warning about an email scam that claims to be about the annual Best of Madison competition.

According to the Chamber, the body of the scam email says something like “It is out pleasure to inform you that ______ has been selected for the 2019 Best of Madison Awards in the category of ______. Best Regards, Madison Business Recognition.”

The email address that is being used for this scam is from a Margie Fletcher at info@2019local-selection.net

In an official email, the Chamber warns people to keep in mind that if an individual requires you to make a purchase to receive an award for Madison’s Best, it isn’t from the Madison Chamber.

Voting for the Chamber’s Madison’s Best competition will remain open until Aug. 20. The online survey for this competition asks the public to select their favorites from over 300 businesses in 49 different categories, which can be found at madisonindiana.com/madisonsbest or on the Chamber’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIN pages.

Madison Area Chamber of Commerce executive director Lindsay Bloos said one business has confirmed receiving the email and the chamber wanted to warn other businesses.

Bloos said if businesses or others do receive the email, they need to report it to the police. If someone is unsure if they received a scam email from the Chamber, they can contact the Chamber at info@madisonindiana.com or 812-265-3135.
