A Madison man died when his side-by-side failed to negotiate a curve, went off the roadway and struck a tree on South River Bottom Road near Lees Bottom on Sunday.

Michael Cory Garver, 35, of Madison, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner. Indiana Conservation Officers were dispatched to the scene at about 8:35 p.m. Sunday in the 7000 block of South River Bottom Road, Hanover.

Their initial investigation determined Garver was operating his side-by-side north on River Bottom Road when he came to a curve. Tire marks indicated the offroad vehicle was braking before the curve and continued off the roadway where the vehicle turned sideways, flipped and struck a tree.

Garver was wearing a seat belt, but was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The accident was also investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and the King’s Daughter’s Hospital EMS and Hanover Fire Department assisted at the scene.

An autopsy will be conducted later this week by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office in Louisville.
