A pedestrian in downtown Madison was struck by a car and died from the injuries Monday evening.

The accident took place at the intersection Main and Jefferson streets near the Jefferson County Courthouse at about 8:40 p.m.

Madison Police Department officers responded to the scene and found witnesses and bystanders administering aid to the man prior to the arrival of police and EMTs.

According to MPD, Christopher Neal Wright, 58, of Madison was walking north on Main Street in or near the crosswalk at the intersection of Jefferson Street when a vehicle driven by Casey M. Daulton, 28, of Milton, Kentucky, rounded the corner heading east onto Main from Jefferson and struck Wright.

Wright was transported to the King’s Daughters’ Hospital Emergency Room, where he later died from his injuries, according to MPD.

Madison Police Officer Brad Demaree is investigating the accident and toxicology reports are pending.
