The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for allegedly firing a rifle and accidentally hitting a woman sitting inside, according to a release from Chief Deputy Josh Taylor.

The sheriff’s office was notified of the incident on Thursday and met with the 32 y/o female victim, Kristina Law, at King’s Daughters’ Health to investigate. Upon completion of the investigation, it was determined that Law was visiting a residence in the 4700 block of South Hanover Saluda Road in Jefferson County when she was struck by a bullet that had been fired from a rifle at a property east of the residence.

After further investigation, officers arrested Charles J. Hutchason, 48, for criminal recklessness, a Level 5 felony. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Officer and Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office are reviewing the case to determine if additional charges will be filed.

Law was treated and released from the hospital with a non-life threating injury.
