Superintendent Jeff Bates reports Southwestern Jefferson County School Corporation’s first day of school Thursday went smoothly. It was also the first day in new jobs for four administrators: Bates; Robert Adams, elementary school principal; Matt Owens, high school principal, and Krista Chatham, assistant principal at the elementary school. Cathy Bear, the school system’s transportation director reported no issues with busing on the Thursday morning pickups and said no buses were late despite changes in routes to accommodate a new Indiana law that says children cannot cross a lane of traffic to board a school bus.
