The Madison Area Chamber of Commerce will host a series of public forums for local residents to meet with their state House and Senate representatives.

The session, known as Third House, will be held the fourth Saturday of January, February and March.

The forums are scheduled from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Ivy Tech Community College.

The first forum is Jan. 25.

Each of Jefferson County's state House and Senate representatives have been invited to the program, said Kevin Watkins, who moderates the discussions.

Watkins said U.S. Congressman Luke Messer also has been invited to attend.

Indiana's 10-week legislative session began Tuesday and will continue until March 14.

Jefferson County is split up between District 66, Democrat Terry Goodin, District 67, Republican Randy Frye, and District 69, Republican Jim Lucas. Lucas represents the northwestern portion of the county, Frye represents the eastern end and Goodin represents the southern portions.

Sen. Jim Smith represents Indiana's 45th district, which includes Madison.

Watkins said each session opens with the legislators describing current works or bills in progress.

A question-and-answer segment follows.

Watkins said the forum gives the public a great chance to meet their representatives face-to-face.

"We encourage the public to attend," he said.
