An early morning crash between two vehicles Thursday in Washington County killed one driver and sent three others to hospitals in Louisville, according to a news release from Indiana State Police.

Scott County Sheriff’s Office deputies were the first to respond to the scene after receiving a call about 1 a.m. ISP troopers and ISP Crash Reconstructionists officers believe a black, 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Victor Colon, 50, of Scottsburg, was southbound on S. R. 39 approaching a stop sign at the intersection of S.R. 56., just west of the Scott County line.

Meanwhile, a silver 2017 Ford Escape, driven by Stephanie Barnett, 35, of Salem, was westbound on S.R.56 approaching the same intersection. Investigators believe the Cavalier likely pulled in front of the Escape as it was passing, causing a collision and knocking the Cavalier off the roadway.

Colon was dead at the scene. The passenger in the Colon’s vehicle Barbara M. Hall, 55, of Scottsburg, was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital.

Barnett was also taken to UofL by ambulance, and her two juvenile passengers were driven by ambulance to Norton’s Children’s Hospital.

An investigation is ongoing.
