A Trimble County man has been charged with assault-first degree domestic violence after shooting his wife twice late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning at their home on U.S. 42 West.
The woman survived the attack and was taken to University of Louisville Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg and another to the chest. She has since been released from the hospital and is recovering.
Anthony Howell, 55, of 7090 U.S. 42 W, Pendleton, Kentucky, was arrested at the scene and taken to the Oldham County Detention Center in La Grange, Kentucky. He is scheduled to appear in Trimble County District Court Feb. 18.
Kentucky State Police were dispatched to the house at 1:06 a.m. Thursday after the central dispatch received a 911 call requesting an ambulance.
The incident, investigated by Kentucky State Police Detective Steve Goodale, appeared to have taken place after the two had been drinking and arguing at their home. Goodale said Howell first told police the shooting took place during that argument and later said the gun, a 9 mm. handgun, discharged accidentally. There were no children at home.
Goodale said the incident is still under investigation.
