Anne Allen

Anne E. Denny Allen, 51, of Indianapolis, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in that city.

She was born June 4, 1950, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Forest and Roberta Bayless Denny. Her family was originally from Madison. She was employed by the U.S. Customs Service in Indianapolis for 16 years, retiring in 2001.

Surviving is her husband, the Rev. James D. Allen. There are no local survivors.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Southport Presbyterian Church with burial in Monroe Cemetery in Jefferson County.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Singleton & Herr Mortuary in Indianapolis. Friends may call from 11 a.m. Saturday until the services at the church.



Gordon Campbell

J. Gordon Campbell Jr., 67, of Hanover, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the IU Medical Center in Indianapolis.

He was born June 2, 1934, in Nashville, Tenn., the son of Joseph and Helen Campbell. He was a professor of theological studies at Hanover College from 1965 until his retirement in 1998. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Surviving are his wife, Ann Harrison Campbell; one daughter, Amelia Campbell of Tampa, Fla.; one son, Harry Campbell of Leawood, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at the Hanover Presbyterian Church.

Roy Day

Roy Marshall Day, 74, of Carrollton, Ky., died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Green Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carrollton.

He was born Aug. 4, 1927, in Bedford, Ky., the son of James Edward and Georgia Nellie Cobb Day. He was a retired postal clerk for the Greater Cincinnati Airport.

Surviving are three sons, Mike Day of Louisville, Ky., David Day of Cincinnati and Rick Day of Carrollton; two sisters, Mary Bayer of Milton, Ky., and Patricia Day of Louisville, Ky.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Partin Day, in 1995; and two sisters, Colleen Aberle and Jessie Mae Jones.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Graham-Dunn Funeral Home in Carrollton, with cremation to follow.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.



Shelia Martin

Shelia Martin, 36, of Sanders, Ky., died Monday, April 1, 2002, at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, Ky.

She was born Nov. 28, 1965, in Lebanon, Tenn., the daughter of Melvin and Ruby Dishman Martin. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are one son, Jason Raines of Owenton, Ky.; her father, of Sanders; three sisters, Deloris Howell of French Lick, Margie Martin and Debbie Crawford, both of Sanders; and her fiance, David Taylor of Sanders.

She was preceded in death by her mother in 1971; one son, Jeremy Raines, March 15, 2000; and two sisters, Brenda Lawson in October 1996 and Melva Marksberry, Feb. 5, 2002.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Graham-Dunn Funeral Home in Carrollton, with burial in the Ghent Masonic Cemetery.

Ida Peters

Ida Margaret Riley Peters, 87, of 500 E. Seminary St., Vevay, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Dillsboro Manor in Dillsboro.

She was born Oct. 1, 1914, in Carroll County, Ky., the daughter of James and Sallie Ann Cook Riley. She lived most of her life near Florence in Switzerland County, moving to Vevay after the death of her husband. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Union Baptist Church at Lamb.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Brandon of Aurora and Carolyn Morgan of Vevay; four sons, Dale Vernon Peters of Patriot, Larry Peters of Pleasant, Raymond Peters of Vevay and Bobby Joe Peters of Florence; one sister, Lula Katherine Scott of Marietta, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale A. Peters, May 19, 1991; four brothers, Jessie, Eddie, Harold Vernon and Raymond Riley; twin brothers who died at birth; one sister, Mayme Harmon, Feb. 17, 2002; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay, with burial in the Vevay Cemetery.

James Stewart

James Bernard “Jim” Stewart, 78, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Switzerland and Jefferson counties, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at his home.

He was born Jan. 8, 1924, in Switzerland County, the son of James M. and Blanche Coleman Stewart. He was a former electrician at the Madison State Hospital and later was an employee of the Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corp. at its Clifty Creek plant. He was also an auctioneer at the Madison Auction Co., and owned and operated his own sale barn on Big Doe Run. He was also a carpenter.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He served in the Battle of Iwo Jima, where he earned the Purple Heart, receiving it from first lady Eleanor Roosevelt while recuperating in a military hospital. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion and Fly Wheelers, all in Orlando; and of the Macedonia Baptist Church near Moorefield.

Surviving are his wife, Ann May Stewart; one daughter, Linda Barbeau of Madison; two stepdaughters, Janene Barton of Orlando and Leettia Carey of Pendleton; two stepsons, John and Fred Rowlett, both of northern Indiana; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Lucille Bush, Louise Brett, Nadine Henning-Green and Helen S. Demaree.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Macedonia Baptist Church, with burial in the Macedonia Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Morgan-Webster-Nay Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the U.S. Marine Corps and by the American Legion, Jefferson Post 9. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Comforter. Cards are available at the funeral home.



Jack Weber

Jack P. Weber, 83, of Morristown died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.

He was born Aug. 5, 1918, in Madison, the son of Clyde E. and Ada L. Nichols Weber. He retired in 1973 as superintendent of transportation at the U.S. Naval Station in Key West, Fla. He was a member of American Legion Post 102 in Morristown, the Disabled American Veterans and the Morristown United Methodist Church.

Surviving is his wife, Mary Louise Storie Weber. There are no local survivors.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Frazier Funeral Home in Morristown, with burial in Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Military services will be conducted at the graveside.

Jackie Willhoite

Jackie Lee Willhoite, 56, of Carrollton, Ky., died Monday, April 1, 2002, in Chula Vista, Calif.

She was born Aug. 28, 1945, in Grove City, Pa., the daughter of Clarence and Hazel Hudgins McGuire. She was employed in the Finance Office for the Carroll County judge’s office, and was a member of the Carrollton Christian Church.

Surviving are her husband, Charlie Willhoite; one daughter, Charla Willhoite, and one son, Michael Willhoite, both of Carrollton; one sister, Berdeana Buchanan of Carrollton; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be at 2:15 p.m. Thursday at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton, with burial in the Carrollton IOOF Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon until the service at the funeral home.
